The City of Gresham invites qualified candidates to apply for the role of Facilities Maintenance Technician 1. This position reports to the Administrative Services Manager in the Department of Environmental Services and receives direction on daily tasks from the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator. The Facilities Maintenance Technician 1 works closely with other members of the Facilities Maintenance team to perform maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities, and grounds. The incumbent will coordinate work with City departments and staff and will assist in the selection of vendors and contractors.

What you will get to do:
  • Assist in inspecting buildings and facilities to identify maintenance and repair needs
  • Perform HVAC and electrical repair tasks
  • Perform maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, landscaping, painting, and mechanical work using a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, such as saws, drills, paint sprayers, air compressors, pesticide sprayers, sewer augers, gauges, various carpentry and landscaping tools, and others
  • Operate light- and medium-duty trucks in picking up and delivering materials and supplies to various City locations.
  • Perform plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair
  • Perform carpentry duties in the installation of shelves, signs, bulletin boards, and others
  • Tape, mud, and paint damaged walls and doors
  • Install and move modular furniture
  • Perform parking lot maintenance and landscape maintenance on shrub beds and gardens
  • Document maintenance and repair activities and maintain records
  • Respond to and resolve inquiries and complaints regarding operations, construction, maintenance, and repair activities
  • Provide support and information to the public, staff, managers, and other departments
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualities we are looking for:
  • Someone who is collaborative and enjoys working as part of a close-knit team, but is also able to work individually when required
  • A person who understands practices, principles, procedures, regulations, and techniques as they relate to HVAC and electrical systems, painting techniques, building operations and maintenance, parking lot and landscaping maintenance, plumbing, and carpentry
  • A person who is knowledgeable about safety standards, practices, and procedures of equipment operation, heavy labor, and power tools and equipment
  • Someone who can exercise discretion in confidential and sensitive matters
  • Someone who understands and interprets schematics, drawings, and blueprints
  • Ability to operate a forklift, pallet truck, hand tools, and vehicles
  • Someone who establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all internal and external customers
  • Ability to operate office equipment and technology tools including personal computers, laptop computers and printers, and presentation equipment
  • A person who can communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • A person who can physically perform the essential job functions with or without accommodation


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Up to one (1) year of experience in responding to and resolving facilities requests, inspecting buildings and facilities, laborer in construction or repair work, HVAC, painting or related experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Good driving record (based on our driving matrix described below)
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation


Additional Required Training, Licenses or Certificates:
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required within 6 months of hire
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Aerial and Truck-Mount Boom Lift certification is required within 6 months of hire
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Confined Space certification is required within 6 months of hire
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Forklift certification is required within 6 months of hire


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Journeyman-level HVAC and/or electrical repair skills
  • Bilingual language proficiency (written and/or oral) in Spanish, Russian or Vietnamese preferred but not required


DRIVING MATRIX : You will be disqualified from this process if you possess any of the following driving infractions:

  • A major traffic offense or accident that results in death or major injury.
  • Driving under the influence (DUI) offense within the last 5 years.
  • Have more than 3 moving violations within a 3-year period or more than 2 within a one-year period.
  • Have more than 2 accidents within a 3-year period.
