Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required; a master's degree in Nursing is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
Registered Nurse and/or Family Nurse Practitioner experience preferred. Previous public health and/or adult health experience preferred, including experience in the provision of long-acting contraceptive methods.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as Nurse Practitioner in Women's Health preferred.
- Experience as Nurse Practitioner in Adult Health preferred.
- Clinical experience with Public Health preferred
- Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Primary responsibilities of our Certified Family Nurse Practitioner include:
- Providing clinical assessment, care management, and services including Sexually Transmitted Infections, General Gynecology, Immunizations, offsite clinical services, and occasional Prenatal and Pediatric patients.
- Certified Family Nurse Practitioner provides services that include routine health maintenance, treating episodic problems, managing some chronic problems, determining which patients need referral for physician management, prescribing devices or medications as covered in the Practice Agreement for Prescriptive Authority, ordering diagnostic lab tests or procedures when needed & interpreting results, and initiating appropriate treatment or referrals.
- Other responsibilities of the Certified Family Nurse Practitioner position include providing cross-coverage for other public health clinical services as needed. Maintains and regularly reviews the District clinical pharmaceutical formulary for ordering and required documentation related to pharmaceutical storage and security.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
- Requires licensure as a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner pursuant to the requirements set forth in Virginia State Code with current prescriptive authority in Virginia.
- Board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and current active RN licensure is also required.
- Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City's Driving Standards .
- Must possess current CPR certification or ability to complete within three months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as Nurse Practitioner in Women's Health preferred.
- Experience as Nurse Practitioner in Adult Health preferred.
