In the role of Field/Lab Scientist, we'll count on you to:

  • Conduct field work for environmental/biological projects such as water quality data collection, biological sampling, and hydrography.
  • Operate 20-28' boats, including trailering, deployment, and retrieval.
  • Perform site inspections for environmental compliance, storm water inspections.
  • Perform data interpretation and analysis, survey planning and write environmental reports.
  • Lead efforts both in the field and lab, including giving direction to technicians and interfacing with clients.
  • Perform light mechanical work when necessary.
  • Perform all work with an eye to detail.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Environmental Science or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience conducting field surveys, preferably as a crew chief or field lead.
  • Experience operating medium size (20-28 feet) boats including trailering.
  • Experience collecting field data including the completion of datasheets, logs and chain-of-custody forms.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs and hike 1 mile over uneven terrain.
  • Hydrographer/hydrography experience is a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • 40-hour OSHA Certification, 10-hour OSHA Construction certification & First Aid/CPR preferred
  • Boat US safety course/Coast Guard / Auxiliary safety class or equivalent safe boating certification preferred
  • This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with HDR vehicle policy
  • This position may be subject to pre-employment drug test and drug and alcohol testing during the course of your employment based upon HDR's Drug Testing and Drug Free Workplace Policy
  • Local candidates preferred

  • General background-related experience
