The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics is growing its faculty base. As a result, there is an opening for a full-time Finance Associate of Financial Generalist. The Finance Associate/Generalist will support the Financial Operations for the department and report to the Administrative Director. This position offers a hybrid schedule working three days per week in the office and two at home.

Finance Associates operate as emerging professionals in finance. They may be responsible for a variety of professional level work across various financial disciplines, such as accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury. Through professional development and work opportunities, they may concentrate on building a more targeted skill set in one particular financial specialty. Finance Associates demonstrate a strong capacity to work independently as they carry out their duties on behalf of a program, function, or department. Finance Associates operate in collaboration with more experienced professionals, who mentor and support their development.

Finance Generalists are responsible for a variety of professional level work across various financial disciplines. They possess a solid financial background, either gained through work experience or education, which allows them to assume a wide range of duties across multiple areas, including accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury. Finance Generalists work on behalf of a program, function, or department, independently executing a range of financial responsibilities, based on the organization's needs.

Finance Associate will:
  • Analyze fund accounts, special projects, or tasks to ensure appropriate entries are made and monitor the account balances.
  • Maintain financial records for department funds, following University and departmental policies and procedures, and maintain all documentation and records to meet audit requirements.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of purchase orders and payment vouchers. Pay bills promptly so the department complies with the University's prompt pay requirements, and resolve any discrepancies with vendors as needed.
  • Manage the financial aid budgets of the school, process awards in SIS, and reconcile financial aid accounts.
  • Serve as a department representative in pan-institutional finance initiatives or committees. Attend standing meetings and training sessions as needed to keep apprised of changes in policy and procedures.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Finance Generalist will:
  • Develop and implement accurate, timely, and complete budget and accounting documents, spreadsheets, and templates.
  • Develop and provide financial forecasts. Reconcile forecasts to actual results. Complete all related University requirements and submittals, adhering to department and institutional standards and timelines.
  • Serve as representatives for the organization in wider institutional finance initiatives. Serve on committees and attend standing meetings. Participate in training sessions to keep apprised of changes in policy and procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation of purchase orders and payment vouchers. Ensure that bills are paid promptly so the department complies with the University's requirements. Responsible for resolving any discrepancies with vendors as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Finance Associate

Education: High School Diploma

Experience: None

Licensure: None

Finance Generalist:

Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: At least two years of experience. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook

Knowledge of Workday, QlikSense, and Anaplan

Ability to work with Spreadsheets

Strong Communication Skills

Huron for Pre-Award Grant Applications

Ability to work in a Team Environment

Knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Anticipated salary based on experience and qualifications: $50,000 - $60,000.
