Summary

The Department of Molecular and Human Genetics (MHG) is seeking a Financial Analyst to join their Finance Team. The Financial Analyst will work collaboratively with assigned faculty and their administrative staff to ensure funds are managed appropriately following BCM policies and procedures and the sponsoring agency guidelines.

This position will support approximately 25% clinical research finances and 75% basic research finances. The Financial Analyst will provide guidance and support to include reporting, financial analysis/forecasting, transaction approvals and other duties as assigned.

As a member of the MHG Finance Team, you will focus primarily on general financial responsibilities for various account types (unrestricted, grants, gifts/endowments, etc.). This includes analyzing budget performance, investigate variances, work to resolve shortfalls as well as assisting with the overall annual fiscal year budget preparation.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area with only occasional onsite as needed.

Job Duties

  • Reviews accounts to ensure transactions are accurately charged to correct accounts and meets appropriate BCM and sponsor agency policies.
  • Meets regularly with faculty and administrative staff to review account financials, personnel cost and effort distributions, and forecasting future needs to ensure all funds are spent appropriately.
  • Prepares journal entries/cost transfers, submits budget revisions, updates cost/effort distributions for faculty and staff, approves transactions in Jaggaer and Concur.
  • Reviews and approves grant-related financial reports.
  • Provides monthly, periodic or ad hoc financial reporting as needed.
  • Assists with the annual budget preparation for the department.
  • Attends and participates in weekly and monthly staff meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP/Jaggaer/Concur
  • Post award grants administration experience
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines (Uniform Guidance) and sponsor-specific guidelines, such as National Institutes of Health (NIH)
