Position Overview
This position is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions for the firm. This includes the timely processing of vendor invoices, expense reports and posting of cash receipts.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary
  • Monitors transactions for appropriateness and accuracy.
  • Ensures that staff follow financial policies and procedures as well as assists in developing new controls as necessary. Consistently looks for ways to improve processes and procedures.
  • Participates in the design, development and testing of system revisions and enhancements made to the accounting system and tests software modifications.
  • Researches and recommends and implements cost-effective systems to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Leads a team of employees and completes functions associated with supervising a team such as recruiting/selecting employees, training and coaching employees, monitoring employees including engaging in the progressive discipline process as needed, conducting annual performance reviews, completing compensation activities and reviews, and enforcing policies and procedures both on behalf of the firm and the department.

Secondary
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
  • Job is performed in a typical office environment, but is subject to time pressures and constraints, and if often dependent on input from others.
  • Long hours are required periodically.
Minimum Qualification

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related financial field.

Experience: Minimum of three years progressive experience in transactional accounting with at least one year of supervisory experience.

Special Knowledge: Knowledge of current and/or proposed legislation impacting accounting regulations/reporting. Solid understanding of best practices in accounting as well as internal operations, policies, procedures and application systems.

Technical Skills: PC familiarity with a proficient understanding of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Attributes: Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strong documentation skills. Ability to verify the accuracy of documentation and the manipulation of large amounts of computer data. Strong diplomatic skills and the ability to achieve results through others. Comfortable and effective in creating, communications and presentation materials both upwards and downwards in the firm. Ability to stay organized and deliver/execute under conditions of multiple task and tight time frames.
