Why does the job exist?

The Financial Specialist, AO - Advanced will:
  • Review and reconcile all incoming electronic fund transfers (EFT) payments for processing;
  • Identify and accurately process all EFT payments requiring manual posting into Child Support Enforcement System (CSES);
  • Assist employers who are setting up EFT;
  • Effectively communicate with other state and federal agencies.


How does it get done?

The Financial Specialist, AO - Advanced is responsible for:
  • Compiling and reconciling data involving EFT to maintain accounting records;
  • Examining EFT entries on documents, such as bank statements and printouts for completeness and accuracy;
  • Identifying and correcting errors;
  • Communicating with customers, bank personnel, other financial institutions (correspondent banks, Automated Clearing House or Federal Reserve Bank) to obtain information needed to reconcile discrepancies;
  • Posting transaction data to specified accounts, using ledger sheets or computer;
  • Preparing checks to deposit funds in specified accounts.


Who are the customers?

  • Parties of child support cases;
  • Employers, Interstate agencies and other entities who submit child support payments to the State of New Mexico;
  • Internal and external staff who have vested interest in the operation of the State Disbursement Unit.


Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has experience:
  • Auditing;
  • With accounting and bookkeeping;
  • Working with CSES.


Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting and/or finance. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Defensive Driving Certificate

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
