Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related discipline with 4+ years of related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Two years of experience using university systems and procedures similar to or including PeopleSoft, OneUSG Connect, FAME or UGAmart.
  • Three years of professional experience with book publisher or related industry.


Position Summary

The Fiscal Affairs Manager directs and coordinates all financial aspects of the University of Georgia Press's $4M scholarly publishing business, including budgeting, resource allocation, and oversight of department personnel. This position is part of the Press management team, providing information and guidance to the Press Director, senior management, and all employees in matters relating to Press finances, facilities, and operations. This on-site position reports to the Director of the Press.

Duties/Responsibilities

Manage the financial operations of the UGA Press.

  • Collaborate with the Libraries' Director of Finance in budget planning and salary setting.
  • Develop the annual departmental and sales budgets in collaboration with the director and department heads. Provide quarterly budget versus actual expense reports. Monitor budget and make recommendations about resource allocation.
  • Conduct regular financial analyses of operating results and Press publishing lists and programs.
  • Monitor cash balance inflows and outflows including cash deposits, wires, and other bank transactions.
  • Oversee subsidiary rights and permissions payments due to authors and royalty processing. Responsible for bi-annual royalty statements and payment processing.
  • Supervise the processing of and approve purchase requests, travel requests, check requests, and journal vouchers.
  • Report Accounts Receivable changes to the University. Balance and prepare report of Accounts Receivable to the University for submitting to the Board of Regents.
  • Serve as liaison with the Libraries' Director of Finance and other UGA departments as needed.

Serve as a member of the Press Leadership Team.

Participate in short and long-range planning, including development and modification of Press-wide policies and procedures. Attend monthly leadership team meetings, planning retreats, and other regularly scheduled Press meetings. Prepare reports for meetings and distribution to staff.

Manage operational relationship with third-party distributor, Longleaf Services.

Interact with Longleaf staff. Advise on new opportunities and monitor distributor performance and charges. Generate and share regular and requested reporting.

Hire, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate business operations staff, including Accounts Payable and Royalty Coordinator, part-time business student, and other staff as assigned.

Administer grants and subventions, including revolving funds and other support.

Work with Development office and UGA Foundation on processing of grants and gifts. Provide director and Development office with annual reports for distribution to revolving fund benefactors. Advise on fund use and balance. Attend semi-annual Advisory Council meetings.

Serve as liaison to UGA Libraries' Facilities, Business, and IT staff on behalf of the Press.

Work with the Libraries' administrative staff to ensure that Press staff needs are met with regard to facilities, operations, security, computer equipment, software and networking. Represent the Press through active participation in professional organizations on regional and national levels. Maintain flexibility and awareness of changes and needs in the department by assuming similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.
