Fitness Specialist II

Full Time/40-Hour Week

Summary:
Provides exemplary customer service to members of the Wellness Center in order to appropriately meet their health and fitness needs. Performs fitness assessments, monitors for correct exercise positioning and proper use of exercise equipment and provides constant follow through of all member needs. Upon certification, provides personal training and instructs group exercise classes.

Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education Required

  • Graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, Sports Management or a related health field
Experience & Training Required
  • Experience in fitness testing and program design
  • Experience in delivery of exercise prescriptions
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications

  • Ability to acquire CPR and AED certification within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to acquire personal training certification within 90 days of hire. Certification must be from one of the following certifying bodies:
  • American College of Sports Medicine: CEP or equivalent
  1. National Strength and Conditioning Association: CSCS or equivalent
  2. American Council on Exercise: MES or equivalent
  • Recognize the importance of and prioritize customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Ability to empathize with members who may be experiencing physical difficulties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; good at public speaking.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to calibrate and operate equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a relaxed/professional decorum in client interactions.
  • Ability to act swiftly and appropriately to client emergencies.
  • Ability to utilize equipment such as stethoscope and sphygmomanometer.
  • Work flexible hours to meet needs and demands of members.
  • Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
Level of Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk around on carpeted cement floor, climb stairs frequently throughout the shift and demonstrate proper exercise techniques
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
