Are you passionate about conserving and recovering California's diverse and unique native fish? Fisheries Branch seeks a motivated individual to serve within the Native Fishes Conservation and Management program, working with and caring for California's fish biodiversity across the state. The successful candidate will: - Lead in the planning, developing, and drafting of five-year species review reports for fish species listed under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA) with input from Department staff, researchers, and other agencies. Provide technical and editorial guidance on species status reviews.
- Serve as the Fisheries Branch lead in the Department's five-year review coordination team with representatives from other Branches and Regions to create a transparent and sustainable process for conducting assessments of CESA-listed species.
- Represent the Department in multi-agency coordinated efforts to manage native fishes, including assessment and compilation of information related to current recovery actions, risks, monitoring, and status.
- Collaborate with Fisheries Branch staff, Department scientists and external partners on critical species research and native fish resiliency planning. Compile, review, and analyze data and other information related to status updates of fishes.

Working Conditions
Use of a keyboard and computer several hours a day and sitting for prolonged periods. Occasional work on a boat in coastal, bay, and estuarine environments, in inclement weather at times. Handling live and dead marine organisms. Occasional lifting of heavy items. Occasional travel may be required within the state of California via private or public transportation. (i.e. automobile, airplane, etc.) Travel may include overnight stay which may be extended up to 5 days. Position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational needs.
