Alaris Health at West Orange, a 120 bed-skilled nursing Center in West Orange, New Jersey, seeks a food service director (who is not classified as a dietitian) to be responsible for the food service function as well as planning and supervising department sanitation and food preparation according to menu planning. Additional responsibilities include:
  • providing technical guidance and administrative direction of food planning, menu formulation and preparation serving for regular and therapeutic diets according to nutritional standards
  • adhering to all sanitary regulations governing the handling and serving of food
  • overseeing that meals are prepared and served on schedule
  • investigating trends and developments in dietary practices and techniques
  • reviewing and evaluating the work performance of the dietary personnel as well as counsels/disciplines staff
  • and most of all, ensuring that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Serve Safe Certification in accordance with regulatory agencies governing the Center
  • A degree in culinary services or food management is preferred
  • Food service certification in accordance with regulatory agencies is required, associate degree in food service is preferred
  • Knowledge of basic principles of dietetic, food sanitation and service and ability to formulate operational and capital budgets for the department
  • Familiar with large-scale purchases and preparation of food and food and labor laws
  • Able to positively interact with everyone from residents to government agencies and the general public
