Job Summary

Provides installation, repairs and inspection and increase in complexity and scope as employees gain more familiarity in the work environment.

Essential Functions

• Maintains and repairs general food service equipment, including work tables, dollies, carts, wire baskets, kettles and ovens used in cafeteria operations; maintains and repairs specialized equipment such as stacking slicers; may contact and work in conjunction with trades associates in the repair of ancillary equipment; makes initial determination as to whether a piece of equipment should be repaired or replaced; suggests type of replacement; observes site and corrects or reports safety and health violations.

• Installs electrical conduits, wires, and breakers for installation or relocation of electrical food service equipment. • Plans and schedules preventive maintenance work on all cafeteria equipment, including lubrication and adjustments to insure proper functioning and restrict breakdown of equipment; lists parts to be reordered; maintains an inventory of supplies, parts and equipment necessary for emergency and scheduled repairs.

• Inspects refrigeration equipment and determines proper operating function; performs routine repairs to refrigeration units; conducts efficiency tests with thermometers and related equipment; makes repairs to all types of refrigeration equipment such as walkin refrigerators and freezers, reach-in refrigerators and freezers, and beverage coolers; replaces and makes structural repairs to compressors, evaporators, and complete condensing units.

• Studies manufacturers' catalogues and specifications on all cafeteria equipment; learns repair and maintenance requirements of all equipment; maintains records of repair frequency; makes recommendations for equipment replacement and changes in future specifications. • Performs minor plumbing repairs to sink faucets to sink faucets and drains; initiates requisitions for further repairs.Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • • Three years of experience learning the Food Service Equipment Maintenance, Electric Appliance Service, or Home Appliance and Power Tool Repair trade as an apprentice.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • o the operation, maintenance, and repair of general food service equipment.
    • o the methods, materials, and procedures to be used in maintaining and repairing general food service equipment.
    • o the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.


  • Demonstrated skill in:
  • Demonstrated ability to :
  • o learn the operation and repair requirements of specialized, sophisticated production/ assembly equipment through training schools and instruction provided by equipment manufacturers.
  • o follow oral and written instructions, including diagrams and charts. o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
