Job Description and Duties
FORESTRY TECHNICIAN (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) - NORTH COAST REDWOODS / NATURAL RESOURCES / FORT HUMBOLDT STATE HISTORIC PARK
The reporting location for this position is Fort Humboldt State Historic Park in Eureka, CA. Duties will necessitate travel throughout the District. This position will work under the close supervision of Senior Environmental Scientist.
The position will work on a variety of vegetation program functions including nursery management, succession management, and vegetation monitoring throughout the District. Working under the supervision and independently, they will support the District's Natural Resource Management Program by assisting with the implementation of habitat restoration projects, primarily plant propagation and planting, but also assist with botanical surveys, invasive species removal and prescribed fire monitoring. Plant propagation will include a variety of methods from seed collection and harvesting of cuttings to transplanting exisiting vegetation. The incumbent will establish and measure vegetation-monitoring plots to inventory and quantify species and assess habitat condition. Individual may act as the State's representative to assure that contractors (California Conservation Corps, Cal Fire, and other types of work crews) adhere to the restoration prescriptions, best management practices, and conditions of environmental permits as stipulated by contract.
This position requires a valid Class C driver's license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver's license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver's license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
This position may work up to 1500 hours per year/in a 12 consecutive month period.
