Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Under direction, collaborates with team members, school staff, and stakeholders to develop English Language Development (ELD) curriculum resources. Designs professional development in support of Emergent Multilingual Learners (EMLs) attainment of grade level content language for Social Instructional Purposes, for English Language Arts, for Mathematics, for Science, and for Social Studies reflective of current research. Supports school-based staff and facilitates collaborative interactions among staff, caregivers, and students to promote effective, culturally sustaining instructional practices from an asset-based lens towards College and Career Readiness. Provides direct support to schools on a regular basis; assists with the monitoring and implementation of ELD programs; assists school personnel in assessment, data collection, and analysis of formal and informal data for use in monitoring the effectiveness of ELD programs.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:

Meets Maryland State certification requirements in ELD

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of MCPS Pre- K-12 curriculum for all types of learners. Knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Strategic Plan goals, and state and national standards. Ability to use the Pre-K-12 ELD resources in support of grade-level content curricula to support teachers in the delivery of instruction for students enrolled in the ELD program. Ability to support the implementation of ELD initiatives, Pre-K-12. Knowledge of current research and trends in ELD education with special emphasis on curriculum and instruction. Proficiency in Universal Design for Learning, effective asset-based differentiation, equitable practices, and culturally sustaining pedagogy. Ability to use web and video technology to present information and encourage collaboration and effective instruction. Ability to successfully collaborate with staff, caregivers and students to reach instructional goals. Ability to analyze formal and informal assessment data to determine the instructional needs in a specified content. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and human relations skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree or equivalent from accredited college or university (pref. given to earned Master's with emphasis in ELD instruction and course work in curriculum development); certificate in Pre-K-12 ELD instruction required; minimum 5 years successful classroom experience teaching middle and/or high school English learners, including using assessments to monitor student progress and plan instruction, and using technology to enhance instruction; experience in Pre-K-12 ELD program in general educational settings required; knowledge of current research, theory, and best practices in curriculum development, assessment and instruction for English learners; experience developing Pre-K-12 ELD curriculum and assessments aligned with local and state learning standards; knowledge of culturally sustaining teaching approaches and materials; ability to work collaboratively to edit curricular documents and assessments for Pre-K-12 EMLs; experience teaching across disciplines and with diverse populations. Successful experience developing and supporting curriculum implementation. Successful experiences in developing, coordinating, and conducting online professional development and caregiver outreach activities.
