Job Description

The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources. This position is with our Financial Management, Building and Support Services section of the agency.

Performs highly complex (senior-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Work involves planning, developing, and implementing major agency program(s) and providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, government agencies, community organizations, or the general public. May provide guidance to others. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Elements:

  • Leadership- Lead by example and develop the ability of others to perform successfully by setting high and clearly defined performance expectations and holding ourselves and our employees accountable for achieving results.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with program staff to assist in Fleet Management. This includes but is not limited to; management of Vehicle Use Reports, GPS tracking, registrations, required service/maintenance and recalls. Serves as a liaison to staff for accident reporting and repair. Provides assistance on policy and procedure interpretation.
  • Collaborates the planning, development, implementation, analysis, and documentation of agency receiving process, including acceptance of goods, destination research, signature authorization, and document management Performs purchase order research in CAPPS. Collaborates with property accounting on capital and controlled asset receiving.
  • Manages the FedEx delivery system online shipper account. Creates shipping documents for agency mailouts that include equipment and correspondence. Performs comprehensive reviews of equipment and letter mailouts, ensuring each item mailed has proper mailing codes and meets the Comptroller's mailing standards. Conduct daily trips to the Comptroller to pick up certified mail, warrants, and required signature mail. Review certified mail to determine compliance with the United States Postal System. May provide input on developing or revising mailroom or fleet policy procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to serving as the primary key custodian for the agency. Performs an array of technical tasks such as modular reconstruction and modular setup. May coordinate the install or set up of wall art and television mounts. Coordinate office moves, coaxial cable maintenance, work order submissions, and emergency clean up as needed. Assist with warehouse management and property surplus. May recommend and coordinate activities to produce more efficient building services procedures.




Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.

Two (2) years of building support services which may include; modular furniture builds, courier service, mailroom operations, receiving, and inventory.

Must be able to lift over 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of fleet management
  • Two (2) years mailroom operations
  • Two (2) years of MS Excel
  • Two (2) years experience of state property accounting with a focus on inventory and disposals.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the employee to primarily perform non-sedentary work; mobility (moving around the work-site) is routinely required to carry out some duties including extensive moving upon and traveling across uneven surfaces, rough terrain and/or desolate areas; normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies; marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements; constant use of personal computers, copiers, printers, and telephones; the ability to move about the office to access file cabinets and office machinery; requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; ability to move and transport records, documents, boxes and all related information, materials and tools, weighing up to 50 pounds; frequent sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach and/or steer a boat as needed; the ability to work outside and adapt to adverse weather conditions to include sea, sky and land environments; the ability to work under deadlines, as a team member, and in direct contact with others; and the ability to remain stationary for long periods of time when commuting to and from assigned destination and when traveling on state business including field work and training assignments.
