Responsibilities

This position performs general groundskeeping maintenance tasks on University properties and within zones as assigned.
  • This position may perform the following groundskeeping maintenance tasks on University properties: mowing, edging, raking, power blowing, weed eating, pulling weeds, removal of litter and debris from assigned areas, pest control, pruning, fertilizing, and watering plants.
  • Performs other miscellaneous tasks including, but not limited to: transplanting plant materials, plant installation for minor landscape renovations, soil excavation, and removal.
  • Ensures that all manual and power equipment is in proper working condition and reports maintenance problems to the supervisor.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor or higher authority.

Qualifications

  • Completion of ninth grade.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of this position including lifting/moving up to 20 lbs., kneeling, bending, reaching, stooping, performing frequent and repeated movements, and working under extreme weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of landscaping and groundskeeping techniques.
