Job Description
1. Accepts full responsibility and accountability of unit operations.
2. Receives report by making walking rounds with incoming/outgoing staff.
3. Checks for absent and late employees and monitors the sign in and sign out sheets for accuracy in documentation of attendance.
4. Ensures staff compliance with daily morning/evening briefs/huddles during shift change.
5. Ensures staff compliance with patient-centered intershift reporting that includes the patient in handoff communications, as well as updating the bedside patient whiteboard information.
6. Ensures staff utilization of S BAR for all handoff patient communications.
7. Delegates' staff to perform functional assignments based on individual competency and patient skill mix.
8. Delegates assignments based on staff competence and priority of patient care utilizing the patient classification system and follow up.
9. Conducts patient rounds on the unit daily with Service Excellence initiatives as a top priority.
10. Follow-up with all work requests to ensure needs of the unit are met timely.
11. Supervises medication treatment and diagnostic procedures administered or performed by the staff.
12. Performs daily environmental unit rounds utilizing Joint Commission compliance resource tools, and to assure compliance with infection Control and Safety Policies.
13. Ensures unit operations are in compliance with all Joint Commission and Regulatory Agency requirements.
14. Facilitates a culture of continuous quality and performance improvement using the Breakthrough A3 model of performance improvement for the organization.
15. Works with Nursing Quality to ensure staff compliance with unit, organizational and regulatory agency policy and procedures.
16. Role models and supports organizational strategic priorities in an enthusiastic and positive manner.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and
3. One (1) year of experience as a registered nurse.
