Why does the job exist?

The Training & Development Specialist - Advanced will:
  • Coordinate the Office of Substance and Prevention Synar program in accordance with the Substance Abuse and Treatment Block Grant (SAPT) and all federal and state regulations.


How does it get done?

The Training & Development Specialist - Advanced is responsible for:
  • Developing and implementing training programs;
  • Providing logistic and administrative support to providers;
  • Directing and collaborating with other large state and federal agencies and for coordinating the collection of data for and submitting the Annual Synar Report to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration;
  • Monitoring and oversight of sub-recipient contracts for the provision of substance abuse prevention services and support;
  • Providing logistic and administrative support for substance abuse prevention activities on multiple federal grants;
  • Delivering technical assistance to sub-recipients for program implementation and assure the provision of contract deliverable for the purpose of reimbursement and contract compliance.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has:
  • Experience developing materials for and providing training to large audiences of varied levels;
  • Experience providing technical assistance and logistical support to providers collecting required data;
  • Experience working with and preparing data for databases (Excel);
  • Experience working with federal grants;
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills to serve a diverse population.


Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in any field and two (2) years of experience in training, staff development, designing courses, and/or producing instructional aids/materials. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
