Duties

As a GS-0601-12/13/14 Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer) at DCVS/NHLBI, the incumbent will:

- Collaborate and work closely with the Division Director and other program officials and staff in a myriad of scientific and administrative management activities.

- Administer a portfolio of extramural research grants, cooperative agreements, contracts (when applicable), training awards, and will manage program priorities to fulfill the mission of Division and NHLBI.

- Develop, write, and present new scientific concepts leading to funding opportunity announcements that bridge existing gaps in Division's scope of work (and/or scientific areas of common interest across Divisions) and promote high-quality science focused on atherosclerosis, atherothrombosis, coronary artery disease, and aortic aneurysm, as funding permits.

- Consult with and advise grantees (and contractors, when applicable) during preparation of applications/proposals and provide guidance on program announcements and priorities.

- Perform scientific and administrative reviews and analysis of applications/proposals from a programmatic viewpoint.

- Organize and conduct workshops, conferences, symposia, or similar activities, as funds permit.

- Prepare scientific position papers and staff documents, highlights of significant research findings in mission-related areas, and special reports on scientific areas or programs within the Division and/or NHLBI's priorities and interests, including reports emerging from collaborations with non-NIH entities, as the opportunity arises.

- Represent the Division or NHLBI on committees, panels, and workgroups, at conferences and meeting as an authority in planning, development, and implementation of minority health and health/health care disparities research programs.

- Work across the NIH and other government and non-government agencies to promote and coordinate research focused on atherosclerosis, atherothrombosis, coronary artery disease, and aortic aneurysm.

The Ideal Applicant

NHLBI seeks candidates with appropriate background and experience. Ideal GS-0601-12/13/14 Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer) candidates will have experience leading multidisciplinary research, translating discoveries into clinical applications, and managing complex projects from preclinical to clinical trials. A background in population science, including multi-omics and environmental impacts on cardiovascular health, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and experience in overseeing significant research programs are also essential.
