Duties
The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking a deputy branch chief with expertise relevant to administering the review of grant applications and contract proposals, including the recruitment of extramural scientists to serve as peer reviewers.
We are looking for applicants with a record of independent research experience who have strong commitment to excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking to administer scientific review meetings.
This position is in the SRB within NICHD's Division of Extramural Activities. SRB is responsible for a broad range of functions related to planning and conducting initial review of numerous types of grant applications and technical merit evaluation of contract proposals in the following areas: demography, social sciences, and population dynamics; male and female fertility and infertility; development and evaluation of contraceptive methods; improvement of women's health before, during, and after pregnancy; reduction of birth complications and increase in infant survival; enhancement of the safety and efficacy of pharmaceuticals for use in pregnant people, infants, and children; HIV acquisition and transmission, AIDS, and associated infections; pediatric growth and endocrine research; child development and behavior; developmental biology and typical and atypical development; intellectual and developmental disabilities; gynecologic health conditions, including pelvic floor disorders; and childhood injury and critical illness.
SRB seeks a candidate who can employ strong and collaborative leadership and communication skills in managing and coordinating various aspects of SRB, including supervising health scientist administrators and support staff and providing technical leadership and guidance in a major subject-matter area while directing the review activities of the Grants and Contracts Review Panels.
