Job Description

Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, performs assigned duties involving any of the following: Reviewing medication orders, filling prescriptions and dispensing medications that comply with all applicable federal, state and hospital policies, procedures, codes and standards. Performs duties in a professional manner with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative and judgement.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Health Systems Pharmacist Level I is charged with and responsible for:
  • Displays knowledge of appropriate drug therapy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the department and how it fulfills its role in the hospital's mission.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of where reference materials are located and reviews literature to perform more effectively as a resource person.
  • Appropriately reviews and interprets prescriptions paying attention to details to ensure the accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively operate the Pharmacy computer system and other equipment utilized for routine tasks.
  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly compound medications, prepare IV admixtures, TPN and medications used for chemotherapy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to appropriately review medication orders for accuracy, completeness, potential interactions or incompatibilities.
  • Deals with patients, visitors and staff in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform interventions with respect to questionable medication orders.
  • Correctly calculates dosages of medications with respect to the specific age groups and to the patient's disease specific condition.
  • Will rotate through various pharmacy service areas as required.


Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid NY State license to practice pharmacy.
