Summary
The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Patient Care Services. This position provides technical support to the staff podiatrist so that optimal podiatric care can be given to Veterans at the satellite clinic in Loveland.

Physical Requirements: The work requires walking, standing, stooping, lifting, bending, pushing, and occasional heavy lifting of equipment or patients. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work environment involves risks typically associated with performance facility work. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to undiagnosed and infectious disease, contacts with patients under influence of intoxicants, with occasional risk of verbal or physical assault from patients. The work setting involves frequent interruptions and changes in workspace due to a fluctuating patient load. Personal protective equipment such as protective clothing, gloves or other devices.

GS-6 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes but not limited to: knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal and neurovascular function; application and removal of routine external immobilization and support devices for the leg, ankle, and foot; application of special casts such as total-contact casts, Unna boots, Profor wraps, plaster and fiberglass casts, CAM walkers; casting for orthotics; application of tape to the foot.

Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.

Duties
Duties Include but are not limited too:
- Performs a variety of specialized clinic procedures such as preliminary examinations and evaluation of patients.
- Prepares podiatric work-up, x-rays, laboratory or other requests as required.
- Evaluates conditions and determines if referral to a Podiatrist is required or if the condition is such that treatment maybe initiated.
- Performs debridement of ingrown or fungal toenails.
- Performs a variety of standardized and routine procedures that are non-invasive.
- Debriding corns and calluses, trimming non-dystrophic nails, and providing blister care.
- Provides prophylactic instruction on nail and blister care.
- Writes history, findings, and treatments in CPRS in the appropriate note format.
- Assists Podiatrist in a variety of specialized treatments, procedures and tests.
- Receives and prepares patient for examination and treatment, prepares outpatient procedure room for appropriate foot procedures, ensures necessary supplies, instruments and materials are present.
- Accompanies/assists patients in wheelchairs, gurneys, in casts and/or crutches.
- Performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of clinic operation.
- Assures proper stock levels and care of all instruments used in Podiatry Clinic.
- Ensures proper cleanup and disposal after contaminated procedures.
- Performs various routine and general clinic administrative functions including ordering and stocking of supply items, medications accountability, and ensures quality control of stock items.
- Obtains special order items.
- Makes regular inventory and revision of stock to insure current stocking of high demand and readily required items.
- Obtains special order items. Coordinates communication between patient, provider, -and other medical and non-medical professionals.
