Job Summary:

Operates and maintains the heavy equipment and attachments utilized in the activities relating to street and drainage maintenance and construction. On occasion assists in supervising the work of an individual crew.

Typical Duties:
  • Operates the maintainer, dozer, loaders, and large trucks in the construction and repair of streets.
  • Has schedule flexibility and proficiency to work after-hours on a rotating basis, as assigned. Coverage of these additional after-hours duties is compensated for by additional overtime pay and/or compensatory time, according to the approved pay schedule for these assignments.
3. Operates all large and heavy equipment as needed.

4. Services and maintains equipment, and drives trucks and other small equipment.

5.. Assists with problems as requested.

6.. Assists in the general repair of streets and other repair work.

7.. Performs various other tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of two (2) years responsible experience in the operation of various types of heavy equipment.
  • A current Class “A” CDL Commercial driver's license required with air brakes and trailer endorsements to haul heavy equipment.
  • Must have a good driving record.
  • Must have practical experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment used in street and drainage maintenance and construction.
  • A high school education or GED required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervision.
  • Must have the ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
Work Environment:

This position primarily involves working in a field environment. Will be working around heavy construction equipment. May be exposed to odors and fumes while working with chemicals. May be exposed to adverse/inclement weather conditions while working outside. May work variable hours and or weekends.

Physical Condition:

Must be able to bend, climb and squat to perform duties. Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Must have dexterity with fingers and hands to operate hand tools and small equipment. Must be able to smell odors and fumes. Maintain physical condition necessary for walking and standing for prolonged periods of time in extreme conditions. Hearing and vision must be satisfactory to the degree that duties may be performed effectively and safely.
