About the Job::
In this role, the incumbent will supervise, coordinate, and direct assigned unit staff, programs, and services for the assigned residents at the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center. This position ensures the effective implementation of supervision, security, and treatment best practices to provide residents with a safe living environment conducive to growth and change.

Core responsibilities include and are not limited to: Provides direct supervision to all Juvenile Correctional Specialists assigned to the unit and ensures that the area is adequately and properly staffed by collaborating with the Shift Commander. Ensures security and safety by providing sight and direct supervision, monitoring resident activities, movement, and room assignments, and complying with tool/key control procedures. Collaborates regularly with stakeholders in addressing residents' case management, behavioral, medical, educational, security or re-entry requirements to maintain the comprehensive and integrated delivery of services designed to achieve positive growth and change. Completes, monitors, and/or reviews inspections of housing unit and common areas. Reports sanitation or maintenance problems immediately by submitting maintenance requests immediately to ensure

As a condition of employment, selected individual(s) for this role must have valid driver's license by the time of employment. Additionally, selected individual(s) must complete DJJ's Basic Skills for Direct Care Staff training and the Department of Juvenile Justice mandated training and certifications, to include physical elements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of security, treatment, and management of services in a secure residential setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently; to effectively plan, organize, and supervise unit staff, and residents; and to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and evaluate records and reports; and to guide the implementation of programming based on the progress of residents.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and in the use of verbal and physical intervention techniques.
  • Considerable knowledge of supervisory techniques, performance management, employee development, and security procedures; knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of group facilitation and management of programs in a residential setting.
  • Ability to apply evidence-based practices and case management procedures in the implementation of programs for residents; train, empower, and mentor staff; and coordinate interdisciplinary team members in the comprehensive delivery of programming. Ability to perform physical intervention (restraint) techniques in accordance with procedure and training.
Additional Considerations

Considerable experience supervising and interacting with juveniles in a secure/ residential setting is desired.
