This position is within FSU's Department of Information Technology Services - Research Computing Center

The Research Computing Center at Florida State University enables research and education by maintaining a diverse campus cyberinfrastructure and by providing training opportunities and dedicated consulting for all faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

The administrator is responsible for the system software stack at RCC. Their tasks include installing, patching, and upgrading all system software. Also, the administrator will assist with diagnosing or deploying the physical or virtual servers or containers for these services.

Stay abreast of Linux system stack software, including novel techniques like container deployment and cloud computing.

The position will assist the system team administrators with maintaining and (re)writing the rules in the software configuration management.

Assist the application team in building the scientific software stack. This support includes maintaining the software build infrastructure and training the application team members.

Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience with administrating Linux or Unix systems

Experience with configuring and maintaining complex applications.

Experience with software deployment through software like Foreman, Katello, or RHEL Satellite.

Experience with working in a team.

Knowledge of computer operations, functions, and related peripherals.

Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures for computer support.

Knowledge of standard programming languages, concepts, practices, and procedures within the technology field.

Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal to moderate supervision.

Knowledge of information technology security measures.

Someone who likes to learn new things and is curious. IT constantly changes and the software stack that we currently use, may be completely different than what we will use in five years from now.

What can I expect in the first 60-90 days?

We serve hundreds of faculty and students from almost all colleges at FSU, all with their own computing needs and requirements. Therefore. we manage a complex software stack for a wide variety of servers. You will need several months to get up to speed on our systems. But we offer plenty of room for you to grow in our small team.
