Job Description

The Office of the Provost at Virginia Tech is seeking an experienced and dynamic Human Resources (HR) Manager to provide strategic HR support to administrative and academic units within the Provost's Office. The HR Manager will play a pivotal role in the development, coordination, and execution of human resources policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with university objectives and compliance with relevant regulations. The HR Manager will work closely with Provost Office department leaders, administrative and professional faculty, and staff to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic HR Leadership: Collaborate with senior leadership to design and implement HR strategies that align with the university's strategic goals, particularly in relation to faculty affairs, and inclusive excellence.
• Talent Acquisition and Management: Oversee recruitment processes for faculty and staff positions, including position creation, job postings, candidate sourcing, and hiring committee coordination, onboarding and offboarding. Ensure compliance with university and legal hiring practices.
• Employee Relations: Serve as a resource for provost office employees on HR-related matters, including conflict resolution, performance management, and grievance handling. Provide guidance on policies and procedures to ensure fair treatment and a positive work environment.
• Performance Management: Develop and manage performance evaluation programs, addressing performance concerns, and recommend professional development opportunities.
• HR Policy Compliance: Ensure compliance with university HR policies, state and federal employment laws, and HR best practices.
• Compensation and Benefits Administration: Provide guidance on salary structure, job classifications, and benefits programs to ensure equitable and competitive offerings for Provost Office employees.
• HR Data and Reporting: Maintain accurate HR records and data analytics, providing reports to senior leadership on key HR metrics (e.g., diversity, turnover, performance).
• Inclusive Excellence Initiatives: Support and advance inclusive excellence initiatives by ensuring that HR practices, recruitment efforts, and workplace culture reflect Virginia Tech's commitment to the VT's Principles of Community and diversity in all forms.

This position is in Blacksburg, VA and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement after the initial training period. The HR Manager who reports to the Human Resources Division Director for the Provost Office will be a part of a three-person HR team.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
• Significant experience in a professional human resources role.
• Demonstrated ability to manage HR functions in a complex, decentralized organization.
• Proven knowledge of HR policies, employment law, and compliance issues.
• Experience in employee relations, talent acquisition, and performance management.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence in HR practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
• Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR).
• Previous experience in higher education or academic HR management.
• Experience with HR data analytics and reporting to inform decision-making.
• Familiarity with Virginia Tech's HR policies, systems, and procedures.
