Job Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist, under the leadership of the Vice President of Human Resources & Employee Relations, is accountable for providing on-site HR services to employees and provides strategic and hands-on support for the HR functions in the area of recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits, compensation, and training at Riverland Community College. This position assists the HR department in all phases of HR within the college.

This position is considered confidential defined by M.S. 13.37 as it has access to and utilizes information pertaining to labor relations, it provides assistance and information for use in the development of a strike plan, and it will research/compile classification and compensation information to respond to equity proposals for salary ranges for classes under review in collective bargaining negotiations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of administrative support experience.

• Basic knowledge of applicable state/federal employment laws and compliance requirements.

• Proficiency with

o Business software applications (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Forms, and Word)

o HR Management Information Systems (HRIS, SkillSurvey), applicant tracking systems, Workday and/or the ability to learn new computer software systems.

• Strong written and oral communication and customer service skills sufficient to create clear and concise documentation and present information in one-on-one and group settings.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to refocus and concentrate on complicated issues with accuracy, in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

• Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to analyze complex information, research answers to problems and/or concerns, and/or create reports for management.

• Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information with utmost discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates degree or higher in office management, HR or related area of discipline.

• Experience with recruitment, onboarding, employee training programs, benefits administration, retirement programs, employee engagement, recognition programs and organizational structure.

• Knowledge of State and/or MnSCU personnel policies and procedures, MnSCU labor contracts and system policies and programs such as ISRS, SCUPPS, Sema4, and Faculty Workload Management (FWM).

• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional HR development.

• Prior experience working at a Minnesota State institution and/or experience in public sector human resource management.

• Bilingual/multilingual fluent in Spanish, Somali, Karen, Anuak, Nuer, or other languages that reflect our student body, workforce, and communities.

• Demonstrated experience working with multicultural and underserved populations.
