As a Human Resources Specialist (Classification) GS-0201-12/13, your typical work assignments may include:
  • Serving as a technical authority for classification, position management and organizational management for an agency;
  • Coordinating and carrying out special position classification studies that assures full compliance with OPM regulatory requirements;
  • Ensuring all regulatory requirements and operations workflows of an agency's classification program; and
  • Reviewing decisions from classification appeal process and determines the extent to which the decision affects classification within the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the GS-12, Human Resources Specialist (Classification), and that is typically related to the work of the position to be filled.

Specialized experience includes:
  • Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to resolve issues or perform projects concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of classification program operations;
  • Ability to make decisions, resolve problems or discrepancies based on knowledge of personnel processing rules, regulations, and procedures;
  • Experience reviewing decisions from the classification appeal process; and
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and evaluating position classification and position management laws, regulations, directives, and policies.

GS-13

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the GS-13, Human Resources Specialist (Classification), and that is typically related to the work of the position to be filled.

Specialized experience includes:
  • Experience coordinating and carrying out special position classification studies that assures full compliance with OPM regulatory requirements;
  • Experience providing advisory services regarding position classification and position management;
  • Experience reviewing decisions from the classification appeal process and determining the extent to which the decision affects classification within an agency.; and
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and evaluating position classification and position management laws, regulations, directives, and policies and recommending changes that would improve operations and processes.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS

GS-12


Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year of experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service is required to qualify for the GS-12 grade level

Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year of experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service is required to qualify for the GS-13 grade level
