Duties

As an Human Resources Specialist (Classification), some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Providing continuing position classification services to support organizations which are composed of positions performing work typical of professional, scientific, administrative and technical fields. Applies classification standards and supplemental guidance to determine title, series and grade. Applies a thorough and comprehensive understanding of classification principles and concepts to interpret and adapt classification guides to secure sound decisions on positions for which the guides are only partially applicable and few precedents exist. Conducts on-site or telephonic audits, prepares written classification evaluation statements and processes individual actions
  • Conducting position management and classification studies and surveys following established procedures to schedule, report, clear and present results and recommendations. Coordinates with FERC personnel to research organization and position structures, conduct on-site or telephonic audits, and complete studies for reorganizations, application of new classification standards, consistency reviews, and other surveys for program review.
  • Acting on a variety of classification programs including Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Environmental Differential Pay (EDP), Hazard Pay, draft classification standards, competitive level descriptions, and various FERC initiatives. Provides advice and assistance on automated personnel programs such as Hiring Management's Position Classification (PC) system and organization/position requirements of the Federal Personnel Processing System (FPPS). Inputs and retrieves PDs and data from FPPS and PC, assures accuracy of organization and position data, and initiates corrective action when necessary.

Qualifications

You must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS- 12 level. Specialized experience is defined as: Demonstrated experience in classifying Federal positions up to the GS-15 grade level, as well as administering human resources programs to include classification, position management and related reporting.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.

The duty station location of this position is Washington, DC. However, the duty station location may be negotiated after selection.
