This project position has been authorized and the anticipated end date is July 31, 2025. Candidates chosen for a project position may be considered for permanent positions in the near future if any permanent positions become available. Project employees seeking permanent positions would be required to apply through the standard application process.

Employees in project positions of less than 1 year in duration are not eligible for the State of Wisconsin health insurance coverage, and are not eligible to participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System. Position Summary

This position plays a crucial role in fostering the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts of the State Public Defender's office (SPD) through active collaboration and communication with stakeholders, policy auditing and evaluation, and coordinating initiatives designed to further enhance the SPD's commitment to these principles.

Responsibilities include coordinating SPD's DEI committee, sub-committees and Employee Resource Groups, creating and distributing monthly DEI newsletters, and the review and evaluation of operational guidelines, policies and documentation to ensure adherence to the agency's DEI Strategic Plan as well as Affirmative Action (AA) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations. In addition, this position will assist with the intake and processing of Respectful Workplace complaints, help with the coordination of Reasonable Accommodation requests, and participate in investigations concerning harassment and discrimination.

Salary Information

The starting salary for the Human Resources Specialist-Senior will be between $33.00 and $36.80 per hour and is in pay schedule-range (81-03). Salary will depend on experience and qualifications and will be based on rules that apply in the current compensation plan.

Permanent classified state employees who are eligible for consideration (transfer, voluntary demotion, or reinstatement) for a position assigned to the stated pay range or counter-part pay range, should complete the application process as described below by the stated deadline.

  • Creating and working with electronic communication formats such as e-newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, and similar media
A well-qualified candidate will also have experience and/or training in the following areas :
  • Creating/Managing an organization's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts
  • Human Resources and/or DEI experience within the public sector (i.e., Municipal, County, State, Federal or Higher Education)
  • Project Management experience
