HVAC Specialist (SR)

MR07-Starting Rate dependent on candidate qualifications and experience

Job Summary:

The position holder will assist Air Conditioning Foreman and mechanics in the performance of assigned duties. They will provide support assistance to other areas of Facilities Services as requested. Assist in evaluating the needs of each system to maintain critical heating and cooling systems on campus. Assist other utilities groups or departments in the performance and completion of various tasks.

Qualifications:

Specific Job Duties to include:

• Assist Foreman and other mechanics with monitoring, repairing, and installing air conditioning and heating systems on campus. Monitor and correct any deficiencies in HVAC systems as directed. Understand the type and purpose of each system used to maintain the buildings and areas of the entire campus. Investigate technical problems and determine the best solution to maintain service to campus areas. Instruct junior mechanics in the proper protocols and repair procedure

• Report job information to supervision including any repairs or deficiencies found and the parts or materials needed to correct the condition. Report and correct any unsafe practices or condition to supervision

• Study technical materials and repair manuals to increase knowledge of equipment and systems used on campus and the safety protocols needed for safe operation of all systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Tennessee Driver's License

High school diploma or GED

4 years' experience in mechanical trade (4 years vocational school can be substituted for 4 years of work experience)

Must have EPA refrigerant handling certificate

Applicant must have knowledge of safe work practices, be in good physical health, and able to perform moderately strenuous work activities. Applicant must be able and willing to work extra hours when needed and to be on call for emergency response when called.

Ability to understand standard equipment operating and handling safety protocols.

Mechanical knowledge and skills to service and repair HVAC systems and related equipment

Ability to maintain a good leave record Ability to follow given instructions and keep records
