INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST I

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST I to support department information systems requirements and objectives. Consult with system users and makes software and/or hardware recommendations Installs and/or develops customized software as required. Provide training and documentation of software. Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs as necessary any department hardware and peripherals May maintain department file server, i.e. back-ups, additions, and deletion of users, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage UAB Libraries' inventory of staff hardware, public-use equipment, circulating technologies & hardware accessories

• Maintain technology inventory database, catalog records, hardware replacement schedules, warranty information, circulating technology loan rules, etc.

• Coordinate workstation replacement & warranty repair with UAB IT, campus reps, financial officer, and systems office

• Maintain UAB Libraires' campus IT service contract for staff workstations

• Work with UAB Libraries' purchasing department to identify approved vendors, procure purchase quotes, and place orders for new and replacement hardware that meets specifications defined by the Technology and Technical Services department

• Coordinate the surplus of obsolete hardware with UAB Libraries' courier services/building managers

• Coordinate delivery and set-up of staff workstations; troubleshoot and resolve hardware connectivity issues

• Assist with the cataloging of circulating technologies to prepare items for public use

• Assist with gathering and presenting statistical information relating to technology use

• Manage student assistants assigned to hardware deployment/retrieval

• Maintain knowledge of current best practices and standards from UAB IT

(Hourly Rate: $18.85 - $21.63)

Qualifications

Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field and one (1) year of related experience required. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
