Job Summary

This role is responsible for the pharmacy information systems team in Health System Information Resources (HSIR) and directs the work of our pharmacists, pharmacy techs, and system analysts in support of the various clinical systems used by the UTSW pharmacies (both inpatient and retail pharmacies). This critical role supports all Information Resources and operational needs to maintain the Epic Willow Pharmacy inpatient and retail systems along with approximately 30+ additional software applications that the clinical pharmacy department uses with their medication administration devices as well as their carousels and inventory management. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule but is NOT 100% remote. The incumbent must reside within 70 miles of UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Experience and Education

Minimum Requirements
  • Two (2) years in supervisory or managerial role required.
  • Pharmacy degree from ACPE accredited school, current licensure by State Board of Pharmacy, and eight (8) years of experience in clinical systems and/or project management required. Experience in clinical setting preferred. Or
  • Physician assistant graduate from an ARC-PA accredited school, current licensure by the State of Texas, and eight (8) years of experience in clinical systems and/or project management, required. Experience in a clinical setting preferred. Or
  • Nurse Practitioner with Master's degree in Nursing (MSN). Must have current licensure as a Registered Nurse through the National Council Licensure Examination - Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Must be credentialed through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Credentialing Center. Eight (8) years of experience in clinical systems and/or project management, required. Experience in a clinical setting preferred. Or
  • PACS Administrator (Must have knowledge and training of Imaging Informatics, Solutions Engineer, Clinical Analyst, Application Analyst or System Engineer). Preferred but not required a PACS certification (Certified PACS Associate- CPAS, Certified DICOM Integration Professional- CDIP, Certified PACS Systems Analyst- CPSA) Or
  • Master's Degree in health informatics, healthcare management, computer science, data science or related health technology field, and eight (8) years of experience in clinical systems and/or project management, required. Certification in a core health informatics application preferred but not required (e.g., Epic Cogito or Healthy Planet Analytics, Cerner HealtheAnalytics, Microsoft Azure, AWS, or equivalent). Certification in project management and/or business analysis preferred but not required (e.g., Certified Scrum Master, Disciplined Agile Scrum Master, PMI-Agile Certified Professional, PMI-Professional in Business Analysis, Certified Business Analysis Professional).
Primary Job Duties
  • Manages Information Resources section, such as Network Services, Software Systems Programming, Computer Training, etc. following university policies and procedures and using effective management, communication, and customer service skills to develop and ensure effective program.
  • Develops, revises, recommends, and interprets policies and procedures for section to ensure all applicable laws and governmental guidelines are followed and that employees are treated in equitable manner.
  • Coordinates various projects and programs for section ensuring all tasks are completed by established deadlines and to ensure that quality customer service is provided for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates staff performance with the monitoring of PACS activities and resources, diagnoses system hardware and software problems, perform monitor calibrations, validates computer workstations, resolves problems according to established policies and procedures as required by assigned team. Reviews, develops, recommends, and implements activities, programs or functions as assigned. Maintains and tracks accounts assigned to projects or programs. Develops and maintains project plans. Provides project status reports.
  • Assists clinical departments and HSIR team with a process improvement/quality improvement project committee to develop solutions to identified issues.
  • Chairperson, co-chair, or subject matter expert on two or more quality councils (e.g., P&T or subcommittee, CQT, OQT, EQT, MS) or on a hospital-based committee/task force or ambulatory governance committee and attends at least 85% of the meetings. Assists campus departments in assessing technical requirements that meet needs of their operation. Participates in RFP process.
  • Supervises a group of professional and/or administrative support employees. Assists campus departments in assessing technical requirements that meet needs of their operation.
  • Completes work specific to assigned section using appropriate technologies and communication skills. Supervises group of professional and/or administrative support employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Work requires demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Work requires ability to prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines. Work requires telephone and personal contact with applicants, professional organizations, colleges and universities, health care facilities, UT System and UT components, etc., to explain and/or provide information and to resolve complex, non-routine problems. Work requires reading, writing, simple arithmetic, analyzing data, writing reports, interpreting policies and procedures, organizing people and resources to meet goals, etc. Work may require using computer and telephone for up to four hours per day and may involve sitting or standing for long periods of time. Work requires development, recommendation, and implementation of policies and procedures relating to Information Resources.

Working Conditions

Work is performed mostly indoors in private office.
