Summary of Work

Ward County Human Service Zone Child Welfare/Family Services Department serves to ensure the safety, permanency and well being of children and families in our community.

Ward County Human Service Zone is seeking 4 In-Home/Foster Care Case Managers for the Child Welfare/Family Services Department.

As an In Home/ Foster Care Case Manager, you will utilize the Wrap Around Case Management services and Safety Framework Practice Model for children and families when neglect or abuse has occurred, in order to prevent future maltreatment or foster care placement.

Ward County Human Service Zone works to protect children and families by providing services and advocacy while promoting family stability, respecting diversity and working to create and strengthen connections to community resources. We work to prevent abuse by providing education, resources and support to parents, families and community organizations. Ward County Human Service Zone is seeking committed, passionate In Home/Foster Care Case Managers to serve our Child Welfare Services clients.

As an In Home/Foster Care Case Manager, you will perform case management activities involving complex problems/cases, assess individual and family needs, develop appropriate services and/or treatment plans to reduce the identified risk of child abuse and neglect, conduct case planning meetings, develop case plans and goals and monitor client progress towards goals; complete legal obligations relevant to case management including face to face contact with children and families. Case managers will also complete affidavits, testify at court proceedings and ensure timely documentation in accordance with Federal and State regulations and local policy.

This position maintains responsibilities of a highly complex and sensitive nature and requires a high degree of knowledge, skills and passion in child welfare. Work activities involve decision making within parameters of approved policies and procedures, thorough, accurate and timely responses. This position also requires coordination with local service providers, law enforcement and legal entities as well as emergency response planning. This position requires some after hours non-traditional working hours including on-call scheduling and response.

Frequent travel throughout Ward County is required.

You should be highly organized, able to manage your time and prioritize effectively and have demonstrated an ability to communicate with diverse populations. You will need to have a strong understanding of program policies and laws. You will also need to be comfortable working with all types of software and database applications with a willingness to learn new technology programs and have attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position you must have a bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, education, human services, child development and family science, behavioral health or criminal just PLUS one of the following:

Family Services Specialist III (SC7005)
  • Two years of professional work experience as a social worker, child protective service worker or professional case manager. A Master's Degree may substitute for one year of the work experience requirement.
Family Services Specialist II (SC7004)
  • One year of professional work experience as a social worker, child protective service worker or professional case manager or a Master's Degree in one of the above areas.
Family Services Specialist I (SC7004)
  • No experience required.
The successful applicant must pass a standard background, motor vehicle and criminal record check. Must complete Child Welfare certification,

Individuals may be required to work some non-traditional hours. Because this position requires some transportation of clients, a valid ND Driver's License is required and the employee must have their own automobile and adequate insurance.
