Why does the job exist?

This position will provide or refer to Community In-home Services or PS in-home services for Protective Services clients by developing and implementing interventions with children and families receiving voluntary services to reduce risk and promote the safety of children who have experienced or may be at risk of experiencing child maltreatment.

They will assess the risk and safety of the child and take appropriate action including referring parents and caregivers to safety related services, safety planning with families, and/or preparing cases for transfer to Community Bases Services.

Incumbent will serve as a mentor and lead worker of protective services workers who are responsible for engaging children, parents, and other caregivers in order to coordinate assessments and permanency plans for children in the custody of the Children, Youth and Services Department to promote child safety, permanency and well-being.

How does it get done?

• The IFIS worker will conduct case management of child protective services permanency cases (in-home services and legal) consistent with policy and procedures. Cases may be more complex in nature. Senior worker will also mentor new workers in the unit. (35%)

• The IFIS worker will obtain information necessary to create appropriate case plans to provide safety, permanency and well-being to children. Cases may be more complex in nature. (35%)

• The IFIS worker develops and maintains a positive relationship with clients, staff, other agencies and community partners. (20%)

• The IFIS worker will attend mandatory staffings (matching, disclosures, consultant staffings, etc) and document in FACTS. (10%)

Ideal Candidate

Experience as it relates to:
• Working directly with Children, Youth, and their families;

• Partner with Community Service providers as it relates to Children, and Youth;

• Working with Youth in a school setting;

• Determining eligibility for services that might be needed for the Children, Youth and Families;

• Conduct and complete assessments of safety, risks, strengths, and family needs;

• Developing Safety plans for the Children, Youth and Families;

• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings;

• Identify, provide, and/or arrange timely assessments/evaluations/ interviews;

• Conduct medical case management activities for eligible clients.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or Family Studies from an accredited college/university. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or related experience totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting: late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel is required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
