A11: Engineering Support : $ 19/hr

To qualify, students must:

Must be at least 16 years old

Be a U.S. Citizen or be eligible to work in the U.S.

A student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution

This is a part-time position working no more than 20 hours per week.

Position Description

Intern Engineering Support Tech:

Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS. Assists in transportation engineering support work such as construction and maintenance inspection, structural construction or maintenance, laboratory work, landscaping, surveying or engineering data collection, operating data collection equipment, and other entry-level engineering support work. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor. Cannot exceed 20 hours per week.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops spreadsheets, databases, and other electronic documents.
  • Gathers basic data and assists with routine statistical analysis
  • Performs data entry and computer-aided analysis.
  • Uses drafting equipment and performs hand or computer-aided drafting and calculating work.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS.

Other Conditions:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include

    a trade/vocational school.
  • Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may

    use power tools.


Competencies:

  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.

  • Using basic mathematical fundamentals.
  • Collecting, sorting and compiling data.
  • Analyzing and organizing business and technical data.
  • Using standard office equipment.
  • The use of computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
  • Move up to 50 pounds.
  • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
  • Subject to noise.
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another.
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.

  • This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

  • Transcripts/proof of student status must be provided before hire is completed.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
