Primary Function: (state main function of position)

  • The staff interpreter serves as a liaison between providers, patients and their families by providing verbal consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation . The staff interpreter enters data as well as answers phone calls in daily bases.
  • The staff interpreter translates hospital materials as-needed and Services Manager with projects and initiatives when requested.
  • The staff interpreter also provides staff education, as appropriate and as time permits, regarding the importance of and use of interpreters.
  • The staff interpreter travels to various Einstein sites and/or locations throughout the work-day in the Philadelphia area.
  • The staff interpreter may also be called upon to act as a culture broker, in order to assist staff and patients and their families in building bridges of understanding between different cultures and their inherent understandings of the issues at hand.

This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience:

• College degree required

• One to three years' experience in providing Spanish/English medical interpretation in healthcare settings required

• Successful passing of verbal and written bilingual assessment test

Licenses/Certifications:

• National Certification as an interpreter is preferred, if this is not yet achieved, it is understood that this must be achieved within the first six months of employment, and that continued employment is contingent upon this achievement.

• Certificate of completion from an accredited entity of 40 hrs - Medical Interpreter Training is required

Conditions of Employment

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.

Conditions of Employment

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University. If you are not currently vaccinated you will be required to receive the vaccination prior to hire date if you are offered employment, unless you request and receive an approved medical or religious exemption from Jefferson.
