Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.

The Virginia Department of Health is seeking an experienced Project Manager to provide oversight support of projects to the Office of Information Management. This position is responsible for initiating, planning, and implementing Information Technology solutions for business initiatives, while providing project and technical leadership throughout the lifecycle. The Project Manager ensures all projects are in compliance with VDH and Commonwealth policies, procedures, and guidelines and effectively communicates processes and best practices to project teams and stakeholders. This position develops and maintains a solid working relationships with VDH partners, customers, internal and external project workgroups, contract teams, and other project stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

Proven experience in project management to include successfully developing, implementing, and leading projects from initiation to completion.
Demonstrated excellence in managing multiple projects, varying in risk and complexity, with diverse project teams.
Effectively tracking and communicating project progress from a schedule, cost, and risk perspective to the project team, stakeholders, and management.
Knowledge and experience with the systems development life cycle and various methodologies including AGILE, and associated tools.
Proven experience in status tracking and forecasting, quality, and performance planning, and associated tools.
Experience with Enterprise Service Management and Project Portfolio Management software.
Experience with IT contracts, software proposals, Request for Proposals, procurement duties, and engaging with vendors.
Ability to work collaboratively, motivate employees, manage customers' and stakeholders' expectations, and encourage team building.
Experience working in high volume environment involving multiple projects and priorities.
Demonstrates self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and expressing strong interpersonal skills.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Additional Considerations

Relevant Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science experience
Understanding of and experience with Commonwealth of Virginia project management standards highly desired
VITA Project Management Certification
Experience in health care industry
