MISSION: The Student Success and Wellness Bureau (SSWB) administers the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Program for 210 School Food Authorities (Districts, Charters, BIE¿s, Private and RCCI¿s) across the state of New Mexico.
Vision: The SSWB is committed to ensuring all school-aged children have equal access to healthy meals and receive the resources needed to be successful in their educational goals and objectives.

SSWB Provides:

Reimbursement to School food authorities (SFAs) for meals and snacks that follow federal and state requirements, including offering free and reduced priced meals to eligible students.
Monitoring of SFAs and sponsors to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines and regulations.
In-person and online trainings, classes and workshops for school food service staff and stakeholders.
Offer targeted support and resources to promote program integrity, innovation and effectiveness.
Provide guidance and Support to Superintendents, Teachers, Business Managers, Food Service Directors, and other State of New Mexico Department staff.

Why does the job exist?

This position was created for the formation and implementation of healthy universal school meals within the kids kitchens program. This position will assist in providing technical assistance to over 215 school food authorities that are having difficulties meeting the requirements, and assist in creation ways to meet compliance with nutrition, scratch cooking, incorporating NM Grown foods and eliminating food waste. This position will work closely with different agencies including non-profits, school districts and other state agencies and will serve as a champion for advocating universal free meals in compliance with state and federal requirements.

This position will lead activities such as the creations of program curriculum, instructional support, and creation of program messaging. Kids kitchens includes factors such as culinary trainings, food waste reduction initiatives, and NM grown initiatives. The program will provide support in the provision of culinary trainings and the development of curriculum for the team. Strong skills in communication and the creating of communications utilizing different media for diverse audiences are necessary.

How does it get done?

The key responsibilities for this position will be to assist in providing education and training for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the kids kitchen program the engagement of school food authorities, stakeholder, and educators. This position will serve to also support the integration of different programing initiatives in the area of culinary school food services, food and nutrition education, food waste reduction, student and family voice, program certification, and New Mexico Grown initiatives. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
1) Creation of documents that support communication of program priorities such as scratch menu recipes and food waste reduction.
2) Provision of program messaging for various audiences in relation to Senate Bill 4 and Kids Kitchens.
3) Education and training for internal and external stakeholders
4) Ability to support the adoption of freshly prepared (scratch cooking/speed scratch cooking) for child nutrition programs
5) Knowledge with engaging internal and external partners in the department, public schools and charter schools.
6) Ensure compliance and work closely with Governor's Office to ensure program is meeting state and federal requirements.
7) Work with other state and federal programs within the bureau in relation to NSLP and related programs.
8) This position does require infrequent travel throughout the state of New Mexico.

This position will serve the needs of internal and external stakeholders which include the public education department, school food authorities, educators, educational leaders, families and community partners.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with schools, creating education and training materials, and engaging with diverse audiences.
Examples of experiences of an ideal candidate include experience with developing curriculum and/or training, ability to work with diverse groups representing differing backgrounds as seen by audiences from educational leadership, school food authorities and their teams, educators, NM grown producers, internal and external partners, and families.
The ideal candidate will be able to create materials through different medium that convey program priorities such as through use of both digital, synchronous, asynchronous, and analog forms of communications. Examples of programs used include Canvas, CANVA, Microsoft Office, and virtual meeting platforms.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, tablet, printer, calculator, cellphone, copy machine, scanner, keyboard, and telephone usage. Occasional travel, working extra hours, working on weekends and holidays.
