The Multi-Media Specialist is responsible for overseeing, implementing, and expanding the use of digital media devices in the Communications department as well as assisting in daily operations of the communications department. A key role in this position will be improving and honing internal communications through all channels, focusing on reaching out to schools, staff, parents and students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Track and report progress of projects through use of various programs and tools.
  • Closely collaborate with the communication and web teams.
  • Closely monitor trends in social media and make recommendations of new tools for necessary changes in strategy.
  • Build relationships with various internal departments, APS vendors and external stakeholders to drive collaboration and project success.
  • Assist with media relations as needed.
  • Monitor various social media venues for troubleshooting and awareness.
  • Write, edit and distribute news releases to internal and external audiences.
  • Manage and implement several medium-sized projects and components of larger projects at once.
  • Attend district and school functions as needed to report on events via social networking and/or traditional reporting venues.
  • Interact with and respond effectively to urgent requests from multiple internal and external APS stakeholders.
  • Support and carry out the district's mission to transform Albuquerque Public Schools and close the achievement gap.
  • Aid in the production of television spots, billboards and photos for publications and the web site.
  • Assist office in planning, preparation, and implementation of public campaigns.
  • Supervise and/or contribute to the planning, writing, editing and distribution of official District news and information.
  • Supervise and/or perform the planning and preparation of public information presentations for various District constituencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Produces forms, diagrams, and other procedural materials for external and internal use.
  • Produce videos including writing, producing, editing, and publishing digital/video content.
  • Used and trains users on of Final Cut Pro, iMovie, and other digital software.
  • Knowledge of strategic use of digital content on social media.
  • Provide training and support on the production of digital content to internal staff.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, include clear demonstration of tone and styles with platforms and audiences in mind.
  • Strong understanding of social media, how the various media connect, how they connect with other communication platforms/initiatives and how APS can best leverage them to further community engagement.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person, via social media, on the internet and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
  • Pay attention to the details.
  • Excellent understanding of analytics for digital platforms.
  • Ability to teach others SMS skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in social media platforms, specifically Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Flickr, PowToons, Instagram and Vimeo.
  • Proficient in front-end web development, including use of web content management system; preferably Plone.
  • Expert in a wide variety of digital analytic tools (Google Analytics for web preferred) and SEO strategies.
  • Expert in Google Apps for education.
  • Proficient in video editing, photo editing, graphic design, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Suite.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field and at least 5 years work experience required;
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with insurable driving record.
