Job Summary:

Under supervision of the Associate Director for Facilities in Basic Science Administration, provide glassware washing, maintenance of common facilities, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and disposal of biohazard wastes as required. The responsibilities of this position include washing glassware, preparing tissue culture media, chemical reagents, autoclaving and practicing sterile techniques, and assisting with ordering and inventory of supplies; maintaining laboratory equipment; assisting faculty with moving lab space locations and/or new faculty with setting up their new labs, managing 2 film developers, glassware washers, autoclaves, and other duties as assigned. Requires lifting and transporting 15-20-pound items on campus and working in various temperature conditions.

Specific Responsibilities :
  • Laboratory Assistant duties (IDEALLY A VERY WELL ORGANIZED AND DETAIL ORIENTED PERSON)
Glass Washing and Autoclaving
  • Collect, wash, dry, sterilize and return glassware and pipettes to/from various laboratories. Ensure that glassware and buffers are properly autoclaved, and that labs are properly stocked with glassware.
Lab Instruments/equipment
  • Assisting with cleaning and maintenance
  • Assisting with annual and ongoing department inventory
  • Oversee multiple department film processors, ensuring proper orientation
General
  • Maintenance of common room facilities
  • Assist w/new lab/department member onboarding/contact person
  • Assist w/ existing lab moves to new locations or to accommodate new equipment
  • Assist labs with preparation of buffers and tissue culture media and chemical reagents
  • Coordinate with facilities for new instruments, repairs, movements
  • Manage disposal of biohazardous waste with Office for Research Safety and Heritage Environmental
  • Work with central Facilities Management on lab space requests
  • Requires lifting and transporting items as heavy as 20 pounds and working in various temperature conditions (i.e. cold room)
Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Some experience working in a laboratory or administrative medical office setting
Target hiring range for this position will be between $18.42 to $25.90 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data .
