The Bielinsky laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia ( www.virginia.edu/bmg ) seeks to hire a laboratory specialist to participate in multiple NIH-funded projects that focus on the study of molecular pathways that defy replication stress relevant to cancer and rare genetic diseases.
What you will do:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None.
Preferred Qualifications:
This is a restricted position and continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

What you will do:
- Specialize in lab and/or other research methods and equipment functions specific to Principal Investigators and/or labs.
- Demonstrate expertise in troubleshooting problems and recommending solutions.
- Perform a variety of tests requiring high degree of proficiency.
- Assist in evaluation of research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives.
- Provide assistance to researchers in computing and analyzing data using specialized statistical computer software.
- Evaluate experiment results using statistical and multivariate analyses.
- Research, compile, and maintain complex statistical, numerical, and computerized reports.
- Perform library and literature research.
- Assist in instructing lab academic sections in lab methods, procedures, and safety.
- Explain work instructions and adapt general methods and procedures in order to meet the needs of the research.
- Assist in training other lab personnel.
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in the Life Sciences and at least 3 years of laboratory experience. 6 years of lab experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Interest in cell cycle regulation, DNA replication and DNA repair.
- Experience in genome editing, using clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) tools, and basic molecular biology methods
- Some experience in genomics and proteomics
- Some demonstrated capacity for data management and analysis as indicated by co-authorship on research papers
- Advanced degree in the Life Sciences
