The Miller Laboratory at the University of Virginia seeks a highly motivated Laboratory Specialist with a background in the life sciences (e.g. genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, engineering or similar fields) to investigate the genomic and epigenomic basis of inherited vascular diseases and cardiomyopathies. Our group has recently investigated the causal mechanisms of genetic loci associated with coronary artery disease and related cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on understanding the regulation and targeting of mural cell signaling pathways ( Wong et al Circ Res 2023; Turner et al Nat Genet 2022 ). These efforts are expected to reveal the 'hidden risk' for cocardiomplex diseases for more precise prediction and early-stage prevention.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Performing molecular biology assays (e.g. CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing), cell culture (monolayer or 3D organoids), and histology/immunohistochemistry assays.
  • Contribute to the generation and computational analysis of single-cell (e.g. snRNA-seq, snATAC-seq) and spatial genomics datasets from both normal and diseased environments, in order to study mural cell regulation and disease mechanisms.
  • Work largely independently on protocol optimization, data collection and analysis and collaborate on multiple team projects.
