Purpose of Position:
The APS Filters Laboratory performs testing related to the Avon respiratory protection products. This includes supporting production of filters and research and development towards innovative new respiratory protection products. The Laboratory Systems Engineer supports production and research and development by performing measurements of toxic gases. They will use their engineering knowledge to support the safety, accuracy, and efficiency of testing performed in the laboratory by developing and maintaining laboratory test systems in the lab.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Cadillac, MI is $60,000 to $75,000 annually. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, type and years of experience within the industry, education, etc.

Purpose of Position:

They will use their engineering knowledge to support the safety, accuracy, and efficiency of testing performed in the laboratory by developing and maintaining laboratory test systems in the lab.
Essential duties and/or Functions:
- Design, build and maintain new test systems for production support and research and development.
- Perform calibration related activities for various instruments including GC, IR, chemiluminescence, electrochemical, and mass flow units.
- Work with various toxic chemicals and gases, solvents, acids, and bases, complying with Safety Datasheet requirements for safe handling.
- Modify and upgrade existing test systems to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Know and understand carbon, filter and test methods and specifications.
- Know and understand the test conditions and anomaly limits for carbon and filters.
- Write technical reports and conduct statistical analysis on data.
- Support quality, production, and engineering with non-routine testing, research of specifications and procedures, assist with test plans, generate work orders, and suggest proper tests.
- Lead lab project teams and generate and understand the use of project documentation (i.e. control plans, PFMEA, process flow charts, SOPs)
- Know and understand how the lab work order system functions.
- Maintain awareness of the overall status of lab operations
- Make continual suggestions to upgrade and improve the laboratory's capabilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, Electrical Engineering, or other engineering related field
- Proficient in math; including algebra, trigonometry, and statistics.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems
- Proficient in common MS Office software (Word, Excel, Office 365, Teams)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work in a self-directed environment.
Preferred/Desired Skills or Experiences:
- Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems.
- Willing to be a team player.
Required Training:
- Hand-on training will be provided.
