Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for assisting and performing experiments for projects aimed at understanding stem cell regulation in the rat tapeworm Hymenolepis diminuta.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with reading scientific literature.


Physical Demands
  • Work is normally performed in a wet laboratory environment.
  • Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace.
  • Mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

  • Maintain and organize laboratory inventory including ordering, cleaning and sterilization of labware, making common stocks, and BLS2-related compliance.

  • Assist laboratory personnel by independently performing a variety of cellular and molecular biological techniques, and helping with general lab duties.
