Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary

The Strand Lab is in need of a full-time research technician position. The incumbent will be responsible for helping to maintain the day-to-day activities of the research laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity and comfort with insects and mammals (rats).


Physical Demands
  • Work is normally performed in a laboratory environment.
  • Remaining in normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time
  • Reaching and grasping with extending hands and arm; dexterity with small insects including insect eggs.
  • Driving as needed to perform job duties.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the health and maintenance of insect cultures (mosquitoes, wasps and moth)
  • Keeping records, providing supplies for lab researchers and working with undergraduate student assistants.

  • Responsible for maintaining lab protocols as well as training and coordinating student assistants.

  • Responsible for compliance with UGA Safety and IACUC compliance (including some work with lab rats for research purposes.
