Position Objective: Provide services as a Laboratory Technician in support of the overall functions of the Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Laboratory of Immune System Biology (LISB) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform laboratory procedures such as pipetting; titration; determining pH and molarity; measuring and weighing chemical compounds; preparing solutions, reagents and buffers; media; and counting cells.
  • Collect and organize data, perform data analysis and interpretation, and prepare technical reports; summaries and protocols.
  • Interpret and evaluate the results of experiments. Work quickly and efficiently to generate high quality, reproducible data.
  • Operate and communicate effectively in a group, team-oriented working environment.
  • Perform experiments, summarize results, and prepare internal reports and manuscripts for publication.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information for publication and reports.
  • Prepare various buffers, stock supplies, and other reagents for use in the laboratory.
  • Discuss the results and updates with the Federal Task Leader and other staff as part of the planning process for subsequent studies.
  • Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments used to perform tests and analyses.
  • Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc. required to handle biological materials, carcinogens, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc.


Basic Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree in related field is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a laboratory setting is required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.

  • Effective communication skills working in a team atmosphere.
  • Professional verbal and written communication.
  • Ability and willingness to work on a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
