POSITION: ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCE AND CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR - BARROW CAMPUS

REPORTS TO: Dean of Allied Health

SALARY RANGE: Low to Mid $60's depending on education and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for teaching Allied Health Science and Certified Nursing Assistant courses; and for the general effectiveness of the Allied Health Science and Certified Nursing courses for the assigned campus, including organization, administration, and outcomes assessment.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Plan, organize, schedule, and teach courses in the Allied Health Science and Certified Nursing Assistant programs

• Supervise students in the classroom and in laboratory settings

• Participate in appropriate staff development activities

• Develop and evaluate instructional plans

• Direct and assess students' progress in achieving required competencies and learning objectives

• Handle administrative responsibilities related to scheduling/teaching courses and performance requirements of the program.

• Gather data and reports in a timely manner for SLO and Annual plans.

• Advise students in the Allied Health Science and Certified Nursing Assistant programs

• Assist in budget preparation and fiscal administration

• Assist with recruitment, registration/orientation activities, advisory committee meetings, and graduation events

• Other work-related duties as assigned by Dean.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Technical diploma in medical field or health science field from a regionally accredited college or university

• Current GA LPN or RN license in good standing

• Three (3) years of full-time in-field work experience

• Demonstrated competencies in specific course content as evidenced by education and/or work experience

COMPETENCIES:

• Effectively direct/evaluate student learning and laboratory performance

• Effective organizational and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work well in the classroom and in supervising students

• Display an attitude appropriate for the workplace, which includes interacting positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to students, working as a team member, functioning effectively under pressure, and responding in a positive manner to supervision

• Ability to work a flexible teaching schedule

• Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs

• Ability to teach at any campus where Allied Health or Certified Nursing Assistant classes are taught

• Appropriate oral and written communication skills that effectively communicate information to students who might function at the new, beginning, or advanced level

• Ability to maintain accurate and organized records, and prepare lesson materials

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Effective decision making and problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications and competencies):

• Associate's degree in medical field or health science field from a regionally accredited college or university

• Previous teaching experience in a postsecondary environment

• Train-the Trainer certification

• Bilingual (Spanish/English) language skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• The ability to stand for extended periods of time, i.e. teaching in a classroom and then in a lab; working with students in a clinical environment, etc;

• The ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds on a consistent basis, and up to 50 pounds (with assistance) on an occasional basis, i.e. demonstrating to students how to lift/move patients, maneuvering equipment, etc.
