To be a commissioned peace officer in the State of Texas, successfully pass the lateral Field Training Program, and conduct the duties and responsibilities as a police officer of the University of Texas at Austin.
Responsibilities
High school diploma or GED. Successfully completed a TCOLE approved Basic Peace Officer Course, has passed the TCOLE Peace Officer Certification exam. Must be able to pass the required UT System physical fitness test. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Criminal history must not contain any felonies or misdemeanors above a class C within the last 10 years. Stable work history. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation. Able to provide creditable testimony in a court of law. Must have an acceptable driving record and be eligible to operate a UT owned vehicle. Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Ability to complete and review forms in detail with accuracy and on a timely manner.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience with a department of a 100 officers or more. 60 hours of college or more from an accredited college or university. Experience working in a higher education or equivalent environment. Experience with communication equipment. Bilingual. Possess the TCOLE Basic Peace Officer Certification.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$68,626 plus one year of service credit for every four years of prior law enforcement experience
Working Conditions
Mandatory overtime, various shifts, weekends, holidays. Work hours may extend past regular shift during special events, etc.

To be a commissioned peace officer in the State of Texas, successfully pass the lateral Field Training Program, and conduct the duties and responsibilities as a police officer of the University of Texas at Austin.
Responsibilities
- Proactively patrol or work a fixed post while protecting the property of The University of Texas at Austin to prevent crime, maintain the peace, suppress disturbances, and investigate criminal and unusual activities that may occur.
- Exercise independent and discretionary judgment within the parameters established by law, the Board of Regents Rules and Regulations, institutional administrative regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
- Detain and arrest criminal offenders where appropriate and authorized by law.
- Proficient with all equipment utilized in the performance of assigned duties, to include but not limited to, firearms, restraints, less lethal force weapons, vehicles, communication equipment, computers, investigative and surveillance equipment.
- Other related functions as assigned.
