Qualifications
Police Officer: High school and No experience.
Sr. Police Officer: High School and 10 years experience.
Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED.
No experience is required for Police Officer. 10 years experience is required for Sr. Police Officer. Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.

Enforces all laws, including but not limited to, penal and traffic laws.
Patrols assigned area on foot or in a police vehicle.
Responds to all calls for assistance, service, and hazardous situations.
Conducts preliminary investigations of reported incidents, completes required reports.
Conducts crime prevention program presentations.
Attends required annual training seminars.
Utilizes police equipment such as firearm, baton, handcuffs, mobile and handheld
radios, camera, and other equipment.
Performs other job-related duties are assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver's license.
The applicant must be TCOLE (formerly TCLEOSE) certified.
Must pass a Criminal History and valid TX Driver's License check prior to an
interview.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime assignments.
Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
UHPD requires all applicants to complete the criminal history fields on their
application. Applicants with incomplete criminal history fields will not be considered
for a position.
Required information includes:

• Driver's license
• Last 4 digits of SSN
Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply and will receive preference in employment over other applicants for the same position who do not have a greater qualification.
The applicant must have successfully completed a TCOLE basic licensing course and
passed the TCOLE licensing examination, or be within 45 days of completion of a
TCOLE recognized basic peace officer licensing course.
